PERMITS:
Permits are valid for 5 days.

TRAVEL TIME:
Travel allowed 24 hours a day “unless extremely overwide or over height,” and between 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Some moves may be restricted to the hours of 10:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. Travel is allowed on weekends and holidays.

LEGAL DIMENSIONS:
Width: 8’6″
Height: 13′ 6″
Length: 48′ semi – trailer, no overall limit on designated routes; 55′ overall on non-designated routes.
Overhang: 3′ front and 6′ rear.
Weight: 80,000 Gross; 20,000 steering/single axle; 34,000 tandems; Tridem– depends on axle spacing

ROUTINE PERMIT LIMITS:
Width: Determined by route.
Height: Determined by route.
Length: Determined by route. Length limits do not apply to any pole-trailer loads transporting poles, pipes, or structural materials which cannot be dismembered.
NOTE – Extreme widths, heights or lengths will require night travel.
Weight: Maximum determined on case by case basis. No axle can exceed 31,000 lbs. Loads 140,000 lbs. and up need special approval.

ESCORTS:
Width: Over 12′ – 2 escort pilot cars and 1 state police vehicle
Height: Over 13’6” – 2 escort pilot cars and 1 state police vehicle
Length: 75” or over – 2 escort pilot cars and 1 state police vehicle
Overhang: Over 10′ rear overhang – 2 escort pilot cars
Weight: Over 79,000 lbs. or any axle weight over 31,000 lbs. – 1 escort pilot car; Over 129,000 GVW – 1 state police vehicle

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
“Wide Load” signs are required on all over width loads. No flag requirements. Lights, stop lights, turn signals or hazard lights need to be visible.  Warning lights(amber & red) are required for night travel.
