Permits are valid for 5 days. Driver must have permit prior to entering the state.
Travel is allowed from sunrise to sunset, seven days a week for loads that are 14′ wide or less. Loads exceeding 14′ wide are allowed travel sunrise to sunset Monday through Friday. Travel for vehicles exceeding 16′ wide is restricted to Sunday morning only. Overweight only, not exceeding 110,000 pounds gross are allowed continuous travel.
No travel is allowed on major holidays and holiday weekends.
WEST VIRGINIA TURNPIKE:
Loads that are less than 14’6″ high, 95′ long, 15′ overhang, or less than 110,000 lbs. is allowed weekend travel.
Width: 8’6″ Interstate and designated roads, 8′ on non-designated.
Length: 53′ trailer or load on Interstate and designated highways, (with measurement from rear tractor axle to trailer first axle not to exceed 37′)
Overhang: 3′ front, 6′ rear
Weight: 80,000 Gross on designated routes, 65,000 local routes; Single – 20,000; Tandem – 34,000; Tridem – 42spacing spacing)
ROUTINE PERMIT LIMITS:
Height: No limit if route can accommodate
Length: No limit if route can accommodate
Weight: 120,000 Gross; Single – 28,000; Tandem – 45,000; Tridem – 50,000; Quad – 55,000
Bulldozers may be hauled with the blades on, as long as the blade is angled away from oncoming traffic and the total width does not exceed 14′. If the blade exceeds 14′ wide, the blade must be removed and hauled on a separate trailer.
“Oversize Load” signs are required for all oversize loads. Red flags, 18″ square, should be displayed on each corner of the load.
